The senseless mass shooting at the Chiefs’ Super Bowl Parade killed DJ and mother Lisa Lopez-Galvan and injured 22 others. Two adults and two minors were suspected of participating in the shooting. As of this writing the two adults have been charged with second degree murder and firearms charges.
Before the smoke even cleared, the White House and several anti-gun politicians were chomping at the bit to get as much press coverage as possible.
They were all asking for more Machiavellian gun restrictions, banning so-called “assault weapons” (no semiautomatic rifles were used, - a Taurus G3 9mm and a stolen Glock 9mm were recovered), ghost guns, outlawing loaning hunting rifles to family members on hunting trips, eliminating the so-called and non-existent “gun show loopholes”, strict red-flag laws to siege lawfully-owned firearms without a hearing and just about everything else in the gun-banners kitchen but the sink.
The fact is, none of their suggested laws would have stopped the murderers from their horrific actions. Why do people insist more laws will stop shooting such as this? If laws worked to stop criminals such as these disgusting people, the shootings would have been prevented with the current laws we have on the books!
Take the two youths for instance. It is illegal for them to have a handgun. They allegedly broke the laws prohibiting them from having possession of a handgun, carrying a concealed weapon, and shooting in public, just to name a few besides murder.
The two adults allegedly (until they are proven guilty or innocent by a jury) broke the following laws: being a prohibited person in procession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in procession of ammunition, being a prohibited person in procession of carrying a loaded concealed weapon, and of course, murder. Add to this the charge of procession of stolen property – one recovered firearm was stolen.
Additionally, all have allegedly broken a myriad collection of Federal firearms laws whose mandatory penalties start at 5 years and up and carry no parole or time off for good behavior. Unfortunately, many District Attorneys bargain away referring the Federal charges to the Feds in return for cushy plea deals for these criminals.
When will politicians wise up and start pushing for stiffer penalties for the criminals who use weapons in the commission of their crimes?
Maybe we need to educate the public and vote all these officials out of office.
