Distortions of Firearm Facts on Television

10/13/07 9:15 PM – Channel 5 KPIX San Francisco – CSI Miami – “Death Pool 100” (2006)

A gun was traced to its owner by reading the firing pin marks on a .380 shell casing and comparing them to a database.  The close-up showed what appeared to be a “V” on the shell casing that was matched.  This is a total distortion of the present capabilities of  microstamping technology.  The scene was shown at about 9:15.

It is interesting that this is shown again in California on the eve of the last day that Governor Schwarzenegger can veto AB 1471 (microstamping) before it becomes law.
