Sell Your Shotgun and Become a Merchant of Death.
An Editorial by the President
While scanning an editorial from the Boston Globe recently, something caught my eye. The piece itself was about the recent arrest of a “notorious Russian arms merchant” in Thailand, Viktor Bout. The article detailed how Bout took advantage of the chaos and uncertainty that resulted after the collapse of the Iron Curtain . Living in a Russia with plenty of excess weapons and a struggling economy, Bout saw an opportunity to make money by filling the demand for arms in war torn areas of the world. And make money he did.
I don’t fault the Boston Globe for vilifying someone who arguably increased the level of death and destruction in various parts of the world by selling weapons to anyone with the cash. Scum bags are scum bags. But alarm bells went off when I read the final sentence of the editorial:
Quote “ Bout's case illuminates the world's need for more enforceable legal strictures against the global arms trade, and for more cooperation in enforcing those that already exist. “
As I have always said: Liberalism is a character flaw desperately looking for a virtue to hide behind. And this is a classic case where the Liberal urge to create bigger and more intrusive governments will attempt to clothe itself in noble robes.
The comrades, ummm, I mean , editors of the Boston Globe attempt to take the high road by condemning the acts of a profiteer who was willing to sell anything to anyone for any reason. This springboard becomes the justification to support new, more intrusive international governmental action and legislation . But has anyone bothered to investigate if that legislation will impact the businesses of the world that are not “ merchants of death “ ? My cynical bones tell me this is exactly what the Pol Pot wanna- bes at the Globe have in mind. Because it’s exactly how Liberals operate. This is exactly what happens when Liberals get their way.
Don’t believe me? Ever hear of the Alternative Minimum Tax? Back in the late 60’s a group of some Stalinists decided that there were several hundred evil rich capitalist pigs who weren’t paying enough in taxes. And in their zeal to correct this great injustice, they pushed through a new piece of tax law called the AMT. AMT guaranteed that none of those evil exploitative bourgeois rich people got out of paying taxes . Fast forwarding to 2008 and the Alternative Minimum Tax now effects millions of Americans and has pushed thousands of them into bankruptcy.
Make no bones about it. The arrogant egomaniacs at the Globe have one thing in mind: destroying the Second Amendment. Viktor Bout is just a convenient poster child they can use to justify their actions. This is a classic example of the Liberal bait and switch con. They make no distinction between the Viktor Bouts of the world and the legitimate firms operating cleanly within the bounds of honest trade and commerce. They will eventually condemn them all. And eventually that will also mean you and I as private citizens.
So if all gun owners, buyers and sellers are going to be tarred with the label “ Merchants of Death”, what are we to do?
As for myself, I intend to wear the label “ Merchant of Death “ with pride. I will smile broadly every time I sell off one of my shotguns or rifles. And when I go out to traffic in firearms, I plan to buy rifles, shotguns and ammo from as many different “ Merchants of Death “ as I can. Worse still, I intend to associate with other Merchants of Death on a regular basis. I might even go so far as to attend barbques with hundreds of other insensitive gun shooting swine.
And for all the rest of you reading this editorial, I hope you do the same. There is nothing more enjoyable in life than sticking a finger in the eye of someone who advocates gun control. Spite is a beautiful thing.
