"Is it OK to whip a 1-year-old or a 6-month-old or a newborn?” “ I think it's pretty hard to argue you need to beat a child.”
So argues Democratic Assemblywoman Sally Lieber, (
Mountain View
) who plans to introduce legislation in
Sacramento
this January that will put
California
parents in jeopardy of jail time and a fine for spanking their young children . Lieber says that such a law is needed because spanking victimizes helpless children and breeds violence in society.
While this kind of thinking is not surprising, given the nanny state mentality that permeates the dominant political party in
California
, it is a very telling sign of bad times to come for those who love liberty. It is also quite consistent with that same party’s love affair with gun control and it’s hatred of the freedoms guaranteed under the Second Amendment.
If a legislator believes that parents lack the ability to discipline their children wisely, would that same legislator trust parents with a firearm to protect their children from criminals?
If a legislator lacks the judgment skills necessary to distinguish between a spanking and a “ whipping “ or a “beating” , can that legislator be in possession of the judgment skills necessary to distinguish between self defense and murder? ( let alone the difference between a semi-auto rifle and an “ assault rifle “ )
If a legislator believes that discipline breeds violence, is that legislator prone to deprive citizens of firearms because these too “ breed violence” ? ( after all we must not make criminals feel too “ helpless” )
Frankly speaking, Assemblywoman Lieber is an example of just one more legislator operating with but a few brain cells more than the average dog ( after it’s lobotomy )
And, frankly speaking, this is why so many of our cherished liberties are at risk of destruction. This culture of out and out stupidity, dominates too much of our society. The quick, the petty, and the clever are increasingly outmaneuvering the rest of us who operate in a world of common sense and wisdom. And in the race to grab a headline, the very foundations of a just society are being eroded away.
Sally Lieber is something. She is not just a symbol. She is a symptom. She is a poster child for the imbecility that permeates this State. She is proof of that ancient saying; “ thinking themselves wise, they made themselves fools.” Lieber’s long card is arrogance and she is playing it at the expense of the rest of us.
If you love your liberty, if you love your Second Amendment, the time is now. We must work to see this moron from
Mountain View
removed from office and placed in a more appropriate venue: pre-school.
