Thank you for contacting me regarding the nomination of Michael J. Sullivan as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. I appreciate hearing from you and I welcome the opportunity to respond.
As you may know, Mr. Sullivan was nominated to be Director of the ATF by President Bush on March 22, 2007. Currently, he serves as United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts. On November 8, the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which I am a member, reported Mr. Sullivan's nomination to the full Senate by a voice vote. His nomination is now awaiting action on the Senate floor. Please know that I appreciate your letter and will keep your thoughts in mind should Mr. Sullivan's nomination come before me in the full Senate.
