Oppose AB 2062

by member John J.

Dear Mr. Davis,

Please oppose AB 2062.

At a time that budget costs are having difficulties AB 2062 makes no sense. It creates a database that will grow larger than the current DMV database in just under two years. This will place a huge fiscal burden on the citizens of California just for the storage and database licensing, let alone the database maintenance costs.

This bill will also put an unjust burden on recreational and competition shooters along with the sports shops that depend on ammunition sales to keep their businesses alive and continue to provide wages for their employees.

This bill also limits to 50 rounds of ammunition per month that you can transfer to even your children.  This eliminates the legal time-honored tradition of teaching our children safe and responsible firearms handling.  Usually, responsible parents start the young children with a .22 rifle.  Each child can easily shoot 100 rounds or more during a practice session and since they cannot buy ammunition themselves, the parent would become a criminal by allowing their own child to shoot more than 50 rounds a month.

This bill does nothing to control crime or shootings, since criminals will easily go out of state or get their ammunition from other criminals.  Remember, criminals do not obey this type of law.

Thank you for your consideration,

John J
